A Non-governmental Organisation, African Initiative for Humanitarian Development (AFRIHUD) has celebrated with the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at camp Kuta in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

The visit to the IDPs camp which was led by the Board of Trustees Chairman, Umar Yakubu Doshiro and other officials of the NGO was in furtherance of celebration of those who were victims of crisis and other forms of violence.

19th of August each year has been earmarked by the whole world as Humanitarian Day and the need for Humanitarian Non-governmental Organisations to come together and join forces to assist the vulnerable/affected communities as a result of either armed banditry attacks, kidnapping, erosions or other natural disasters.

In a statement made available to CAPITAL POST on Sunday, the BoT Chairman revealed that the AFRIHUD has conducted the needs assessment of camp Kuta, using kobotoolbox to determine the level and areas of intervention by the development partners and other philantrophist.

“This is to ascertain their high level of vulnerability, the most needed items, their health status, congestion level.

“Gender based violence faced in the camp, their physical and psychological conditions.

“Kobotoolbox was used as a tool to conduct the survey which can be used by our development partners, government, philantropist, individuals, stakeholders, and humanitarian actors to make an informed decision and intervene.”

CAPITAL POST recalls that banditry attack in Niger State has been on the increase thereby raising the number of internally displaced persons, even as some farmers who were displaced from their ancestral homes could no longer go back for fear of further attacks.
