State Police is recipe for anarchy, abuse, Senator Shehu Sani warns
Former Senator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani has faulted the option of establishing State Police as a way of tackling insecurity, describing it as “recipe for anarchy.”
Reacting to last week’s meeting of President Bola Tinubu with governors where a decision of establishing State Police was mulled, Shehu Sani totally disagreed with the belief that State Police would solve all security challenges in the country.
In a post on his verified X handle on Monday, the former lawmaker and Civil Rights Activist pointedly declared that, “the idea is a mirage”, wondering what the State Police could do more than the Nigeria Military, Federal Police and Civil Defence, insisting that those behind the idea don’t mean well for the nation.
He expressed fears that the ruling party will use the State Police as its armed wings and use it to hunt down their perceived political opponents.
He wrote: “The idea that State Police will solve all the security problems in the country is a mirage. What magic can the state police perform that the military, police and civil defence couldn’t?..
“The State police will simply be an armed wing of the ruling party of each state. Its a recipe for anarchy.”
