A Lebanese who was abducted by some daredevil armed men that stormed Yakila Community in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, in the early hours of Tuesday, has been killed.
The foreign expatriate who is a construction worker working on Minna Tegina roads in Niger State was abducted along with his driver by a gang of heavily armed men in the early hours of Tuesday on his site and was taken captive by the gunmen before he was finally killed.
CAPITAL POST reports on Tuesday that bandits also killed three soldiers and a vigilante group member who were said to be on rescue of the Lebanese before they were ambushed and shot at closed range by the armed bandits.
Unconfirmed reports had it that four other workers of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), were also killed by the gun men while the driver of the Lebanese escaped from captivity.
However, one of the bandit was said to have been captured alive by the soldiers who were deployed to the community.
Already, the three neighbouring communities along Tegina, Katako and Yakila have now turned into a ghost town as the villagers have deserted their houses for fear of the armed men.
The Governor of Niger State Abubakar Sani Bello has commiserated with the Lebanese goverment over the killing of its national by the armed bandits.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Niger State, Mrs Mary Noel Berje, said governor Abubakar Sani Bello has expressed his depest condolences to the Nigerian Army over the loss of three of its personnel to the bandits.
“Iam saddened over the continuous loss of lives to society undesirable elements to address the problem of infrastructural decay in most parts of the state.”
“We are at work presently fastracking other measures which we cannot disclose for now, to check the dubious activities of these criminals portraying the state in bad light both at home and internationally.” he asserted.
The Governor called for holistic approach to dealing with the high rate of crimes through strong family system.
He further expressed the willingness of the state, to intensify its collaboration with the relevant security agencies to ensure the issue of insecurity is permanently laid to rest.
“It is more worrisome that most of the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are young people who are supposed to be leaders of tomorrow.” he pointed out.
