Law students of Benue State origin in Lagos campus of the Nigerian Law School have cried out, urging the governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom to sign their bursary payment.
In the letter of appeal to the governor which was signed by Mr. Ejeh Damian Ejeh, a copy of which was made available to CAPITAL POST in Abuja, the students lamented that they could no longer bear the cost of studies, appealing that the governor should intervene.
According to them, their names were omitted from the list of students who were paid bursary allowance in other campuses, noting that they decided to publish the appeal after their case was lying on the governor’s table since 2019 without success.
Part of the letter reads: “I am indeed sad to bring to the knowledge of the Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom on challenges been faced by the 2018/2019 set of Benue Law School Students indigenes as a result of omission of their names from Benue bursary allowance for law School Students.
“We are 2018/2019 November Batch, Law School Students of Benue indigenes. About 25 Law Students, majority of which are from Lagos Law School Campus were omitted from the bursary allowance released for our set.
“It is important to bring to knowledge of the Governor that until today we have not been paid. Our colleagues, have benefited the bursary and we feel discriminated. To worsen the matter, the government is on the verge of paying our Junior while our proposal on Governor’s table since 3rd September 2019 is being abandoned.
“We want to plead with the Executive Governor of Benue state, to please hear our cries. This is because some of us borrowed money to pay the exorbitant Law School fee. Up till date, we have not been able to pay back the debt.
“We appeal to the Governor to please come our aid. We pray that God will keep him to continue the good work. God bless Benue State. God bless Nigeria.”
