Confusion rocks IPAC over exclusion of PDP from Plateau North rerun election
The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has thrown itself into confusion over the exclusion of the Peoples Democratic Party from Plateau North rerun election that will hold on Saturday 3rd February, 2024.
The National Leadership of IPAC has dissociated itself from the position of its Plateau Chapter decrying exclusion of PDP from the exercise.
In a statement issued by the national leadership which was signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Chinyere Ogekalu reacting to a press conference by the Plateau State Chapter of IPAC, said, the stance of Plateau Chapter was not a true reflection of the National leadership insisting “that it was misguided as it was not a representation of the outcome of the consultative stakeholders’ meeting held by INEC with the leadership of all political parties on December 18, 2024 at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.”
IPAC said, the matter was exhaustively discussed to clarity and does not need press conference.
The council said, the outcome of the discussion with the electoral umpire was communicated to the Peoples Democratic Party and other stakeholders that PDP will not be part of the rerun in Plateau State owing to a subsisting judgement of Court barring the party from participating in the rerun elections.
It noted that while the court judgement is already being challenged by the concerned political party, it was unwise for any individual or group of individuals under any guise to embark on any course of action capable of inciting violence or derailing the fragile peace in Plateau State.
The leadership of IPAC in Plateau was cautioned to operate within the ambit of operational guidelines of the council to avoid chaos.
