BREAKING: Bauchi governorship: Bala Mohammed affirmed as winner

The Supreme Court has affirmed Bala Mohammed as winner of Bauchi State governorship election.

Mohammed contested for a second term of officer on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the March 18, 2023 governorship election.

In the lead judgment which was delivered by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, he dismissed the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress, APC’s Sadique Abubakar.

The apex court, in its lead judgement that was delivered by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, dismissed an appeal the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidate, Sadique Abubakar, for lack of merit.

APC’s Abubakar argued that the election which Bala Mohammed claimed to have won was not substantially complied as stipulated the Electoral Act, 2022 and insisted that the Bala Mohammed was not the valid winner of the election.

However, both the Bauchi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Jos dismissed Abubakar’s case and upheld Governor Mohammed’s election victory.

While dismissing the appeal on Friday for want of merit, the apex court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel led by Justice Inyang Okoro, said it found no reason to dislodge the judgements of the lower courts.

It resolved all the issues that were formulated by the appellants against them.
