BREAKING: Akwa Ibom governor, Umo Eno wins at Supreme Court
Nigeria’s Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno on Thursday.
The declaration of Eno as winner has put paid to the legal disputes ovder the election between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the State and the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The election was conducted on March 2023 which the Independent National Electoral Commission declared PDP’s Umo Eno winner.
The panel of justices dismissed appeals filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Young Progressives Party (YPP), and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), each contesting Eno’s eligibility or the conduct of the election.
CAPITAL POST recalled that the Court of Appeal had already struck out similar suits against Eno in 2023.
The petitioners, Bassey Albert Akpan of the YPP, Akanimo Udofia of the APC, and John Akpanudoedehe of the NNPP, had raised various concerns, including allegations of electoral malpractices and Eno’s qualification to hold office.
