Kogi: Two dies in Egume annual sports gun misfire

Egume community in Dekina Local Government of Kogi East Senatorial District was on Tuesday thrown into mourning as two persons have been killed due to gun misfire by a vigilante.

It was learnt that the arms bearing vigilante had been with the annual marathon sporting event which started on Monday in Egume community misfired and killed two persons on the spot when fight broke out among the contestants over who should take the third position.

Change of Name

His attention was drawn to the fight and in an attempt to open fire to scarce the fighters, mistakenly hit two bystanders at the scene and they fell and die on the spot.

Sports marathon had been an annual event organized by the community for the Yuletide season.

The deceased were identified as Benjamin Adaji and Abdul Abbas.

The Police Area Command at Anyigba in Dekina and the Police Command headquarters in Lokoja neither issued any statement nor confirmed the report, but the news has hit social media with reactions.

Comrd akoji wrote: “Egume Vigilante do this one It’s too early JC Abdul Abass Ojochenemi and Adaji Benjamin (odogwu Malaysia) Rest well. This is indeed a colossal loss.

Shaibu Enyojo: “My heart goes out to the concerned people at Egume on the demise of a young promising good looking man, called Adaji Benjamin.

“I have never met him before, but the trend took me to his profile. His pictures are all over, those he has been good to are all wailing

“Just few moments back I was lost in thought how someone can have the heart to klLL someone with a gun, only for me to come and see this.

“I wanted to ask someone what really happened, but it’s needless since I couldn’t hold my tears going through all the posts…as he was shot dead this morning. What a world!

“So, this is the same way people will do to me if I go anywhere beyond this earth. Hmmmm After all the games we are playing here on earth, we will all go home.
RIP, Benjamin.”
