Christmas Celebration: No genuine love among Nigerians anymore – CAN Chairman laments
Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger state chapter, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna has disclosed that Nigerians only exhibit love when they stand to gain something in return.
While speaking on the message titled: Genuine Love (John chapter 1), the Chairman who is also the Bishop of Kontagora Diocese said at the Christmas Mass held at the Catholic Cathedral church of St. Michael, Kontagora that there is no genuine love amongst the people.
He added that, it is only genuine love with real sacrifice that can help us as a people.
According to him “in the church today, even in the society and in government there is no genuine love, love is the basis for which we celebrate Christmas
“As Christians we are expected to show and share the love with everyone especially the less privileged, the sick, those who need and even the elderly.
“Unfortunately, the kind of love showed by us is the one that we expect to gain something in return and not symbiosis”.
While calling on leaders to always find out from the people before embarking on any project, Bishop Yohanna said “if a leader genuinely loves his people, he meets and discuss what they really need and how it will benefit them.
“A President or Governor must first check whether the programme will impact the people positively or not. My worry is that, Politicians only remember the common man during elections and after that, they are on their own.”
He added that, Jesus was more popular amongst the people because he was always with the poor helping them. If there is genuine Love, the problem we are having today won’t be there.
