BREAKING: Defected 25 Assembly members in Rivers have lost seats permanently – PDP
The National Working Committee, NWC of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on Tuesday declared that the defected 25 members of Rivers State House of Assembly have lost their seats permanently.
The party insisted that there was no remedy for the defectors having moved from party that brought them to the State parliament to the All Progressives Congress, APC, noting that the defectors should be prepared for fresh elections.
In a statement signed by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum which was obtained by CAPITAL POST in Abuja, said by virtue of Section 109 (1)(g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) the legislators vacated and lost their seats by reason of defection from the PDP, the Party platform upon which they were elected into the House of Assembly.
PDP’s statement was released to journalists immediately after the meeting of the National Working Committee which held primarily to appraise development in Rivers State.
Part of the Statement read: “There is no remedy for the affected lawmakers. They should get prepared for fresh elections.”
CAPITAL POST reported that 25 members of Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday last week dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for All Progressives Congress, in demonstration of their loyalty to the former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike who has been at daggers-drawn with Governor Siminalaya Fubara.
For the second time, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu moved to reconcile Wike and governor Fubara having summon them for a meeting about 48 hours ago which he tried to reconcile them.
