El-Rufai/Uba Sani crisis: Femi Fani-Kayode moves for reconciliation
A controversial ex-Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has commenced the process of settling political feud between the former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai and his political godson and current governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani.
In a post on his X handle (formerly Twitter), Fani-Kayode confirmed hosting governor Uba Sani in his private residence in Abuja on Sunday, but did not disclose details of their discussion.
CAPITAL POST however, gathered from a source close to the Fani-Kayode family that the former Minister of Aviation had expressed concern over the frosty relationship between Malam El-Rufai and Uba Sani in less than seven months after Uba took over governance from El-Rufai, stating that both of them are close to him, having worked together with the former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government.
The source said, governor Uba Sani was said to have expressed his frustration due to huge debt left by El-Rufai that was almost crippling his administration as he cannot presently initiate fresh projects and pay Kaduna Civil servants’ salaries.
The protracted crisis between Uba Sani and El-Rufai deepened these days as both have been avoiding each other during government functions alongside their aides and supporters.
Confirming Uba Sani’s visitation at the invitation of Fani-Kayode, he wrote:
“It was an honor, privilege and a joy for me to receive my dear friend and brother, His Excellency Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state and my friend and brother Alhaji Hamisu Yusuf Abubakar to my Abuja home yesterday.
“Uba and I have been very close brothers for over 20 years and we worked together in President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government where he took over my first assignment as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs after I was appointed as a Minister.
“He is a wonderful man, a deeply courageous fighter, a champion of human rights, an upright and committed public servant and a well-respected and insightful leader.
“I am very proud of him and his efforts as Governor of Kaduna state and I have no doubt that under his leadership the state shall go from strength to strength. We, of course, had a great time yesterday and discussed many national issues. God bless you now and always my brother and thanks for gracing us with your presence.”
