Lalong leaves Tinubu’s cabinet for Senate
Minister of Labour, Employment and Productivity, Simon Lalong has finally left President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet for Senate as his resignation has been accepted by the President.
Lalong will proceed to the National Assembly to represent Plateau South Senatorial District, following his victory at the Court of Appeal as the winner of the parliamentary election held on February, 2023.
Appeal Court affirmed his victory on November 7, 2023.
Though his resignation was not announced at the last sitting of the Federal Executive Committee, FEC, his resignation was confirmed to select journalists within the villa that President Tinubu has released him to go.
“Lalong has resigned. But it was not at the FEC meeting itself. It must have been after the meeting because, if it were earlier, the President or SGF would have announced it during the meeting,” a presidential aide told our correspondent.”
He was expected to be sworn in this week by Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio.
Lalong served as Director-General of the Tinubu Campaign Organisation in the months leading to the February Presidential election.
He ran for the Senate office but lost, according to results by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, he challenged the result in court and won at the Court of Appeal.
