BREAKING: INEC moves Kogi election results, materials to Abuja ahead of Governorship Election Tribunal sitting
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has moved results of governorship election and other sensitive materials related to Kogi State Governorship election which held on 11th November, 2023 to Abuja.
CAPITAL POST reports that the materials were moved in INEC trucks under heavy security on Friday.
The relocation of the materials had been the wish of the Social Democratic Party, SDP in Kogi State which contested the governorship election and believed to have won, but which was rigged by the All Progressives Congress, APC.
CAPITAL POST gathered that the materials transferred also include the election results in readiness for the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting which has earlier been relocated to the National Judicial Council complex, Jabi Abuja.
The relocation of materials on Friday elicited joyful reactions from supporters of SDP, who believed that the development has put paid to series of attacks by thugs hired by Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to destroy evidences meant to tribunal hearing.
INEC office in Lokoja was seized by thugs believed to be working for the governor and the APC before they were dislodged after a distress call to security agents.
Again, the INEC Resident Commissioner in Kogi State, Dr Hale Longpet escaped death by the whiskers after gun men invaded his house, and opened fire, but were repelled by the soldiers guarding his residence.
Several properties were destroyed including vehicles parked which were set ablaze due to gun fire.
The latest attack by thugs loyal to the APC was against the Secretary of the Election Petitiion Tribubal, David Mike who was driving in his vehicle from his hotel room to the Court. He was beaten silly, got injured and petition documents earlier submitted to the Tribunal was seized.
The attacks were all confirmed by both the Independent National Electoral Commission and Kogi State Police Command headquarters through separate statements.
