Crisis in Rivers: CSOs threaten to storm Abuja in protest, tells Tinubu to caution Wike
A Coalition of Civil Society Groups on Monday threatened to storm Abuja in protest against Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike for triggering crisis in Rivers State.
The group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinunu to call the FCT Minister to order before things got out of hand.
Spokesman for the group, Tunde Lenu stated this in an interview with journalists on Monday in Portharcourt.
“Wike’s action may push us to move to Abuja and occupy his office in protest. This should sound as a warning to him and his lawmakers in the state.”Lenu alleged that the FCT minister was hell-bent on throwing the state into anarchy by using lawless lawmakers in the state.
“We want peace in Rivers State and not anarchy. We reiterate that Mr President should caution his minister to give peace a chance and allow Governor Fubara to attend to his responsibilities as a governor who was duly elected by the Rivers people.
Meanwhile, the coalition has warned the Commissioner of Police in the State, of Olatunji Disu, not to take sides in the political crisis of actors, noting that his body language over the crisis was unacceptable.
The spokesman urged Disu not to follow the path of a former CP who allegedly aligned with acts of lawlessness in the state in 2013.
He said, “The Commissioner of Police and his men should remain neutral and obey the court orders in this matter by not allowing any of the two factions to gain access to the Assembly complex.
Crisis deepened on Monday when 27 members of Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Nyesom Wike, were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
