Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has directed staff audit of all Kogi State workers to be completed in record time before handing over on January 27, 2024.

In a circular issued by Kogi State Head of the Civil Service, Mrs Hannah Odiyo which was obtained by CAPITAL POST in Lokoja on Thursday, she directed staff of the Head of the Civil Service and other Ministries and Agencies in the State to make themselves available for screening.

The circular which was released at short notice to the affected workers commenced on Monday, 4th December, 2024 at the State Secretariat Conference Hall, Lokoja.

CAPITAL POST gathered that workers who travelled from parts of the State to attend screening based on the circular on Monday queued from the hour of 9am, but at about noon day, a worker who was identified as Fadumila working with the adult education in the Ministry of Education slumped and died out of exhaustion.

The development forced the Head of Service to put a stop to the exercise on Monday and asked that the news be concealed.
The screening has yet again sent panic among the workers in the State similar to the one which took place sometime in 2016 left them in misfortune till date.

Our correspondent was told that the exercise was billed to be completed before Bello hands over to the next governor on 27th January, 2024.

Part of the circular read: “All staff of Head of Civil Service, Staff on Secondment to the office of the Head of Civil Service and staff of other MDAs having their pay p;oint in the office of the Head of Civil Service are invited to appear in person before the Head of Civil with their original credentials and submission of their person data.”

The circular directed workers to assemble at the State Secretariat from 9.00am till 5.00pm in the Conference hall.

Also, “All the affected staff from the Ministry of Health should urgently see Director of Admin on or before 1st December, 2023 with the following information.”

Staff name, sex, designation of post held, grade level, date of birth, date of first appointment, date of confirmation of appointment, date of last promotion, i.e promotion at hand, highest qualification, local government of origin, pay point of MDAs, present duty station, bank verification number, GSM number seconded staff (yes or no), area of discipline and remarks.

Speaking with our correspondent, a top government official in the Ministry of Environment who pleaded that his name be hidden said, some directors have been penciled for sack following their inability to deliver their polling unit in the just concluded governorship election, adding that the only way to sack them was to introduce staff screening.
