Nigerian Coast Guard: Checkmate obdurate gold diggers, frivolous detractors, FG told
Worried by activities of detractors, the Federal Government of Nigeria and particularly security agencies has been told to rise to the occasion of stemming the tide, in order not to rubbish the noble effort being put in place for the legal establishment of the Nigerian Coast Guard.
Captain of the Chaplaincy Corps and CE & AO of the Provisionary Committee, Captain Noah Ichaba in a statement sent to CAPITAL POST in Abuja, described these elements as unscrupulous gold diggers who are out to exploit the unsuspecting public in the guise of this organisation.
The statement revealed that those elements betrayed the organization and when they were to be disciplined in line with the set rules of the organization, they took to irksome acts of insubordination, diversion of members, promotion of division, spreading mischief, propaganda and outright lies.
The statement averred: “The Provisionary Committee, which is a Team of concerned Parties, dedicated to carrying out selfless, moral, patriotic and godly duties of providing Technically Required Support services and supplying useful information, for the actualization of the legal establishment of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard, wishes to restate that it has done creditably, and created needed awareness, such that it is now evident that COAST GUARD is discovered to be a CHILD OF NECESSITY and a NATIONAL ASSET that is unavoidably needed to carry out Maritime Law Enforcement and to perform other core duties of its occupation.
“The Team wishes to inform appropriate Authorities and the general public that, it has witnessed, with great concern, the disquieting spate at which unscrupulous persons are activating illegal gangs, to carry out contentious activities, just to seek undue attention and cooperation, for greedy gains.
“This unethical conduct has largely been associated with willful distortion of facts and repugnant affront to lawful directive, towards achieving the establishment of Coast Guard. Various Establishments that have received our report on their unlawful activities can testify that their file cabinets are replete with reports that these obdurate gold diggers will find hard to hazard a defence.
“The public is invited to note that the persons claiming deceitful Coast Guard Related Bills were part of the Provisionary Committee, at a point, and were entrusted with duties of collating DATA and COLLECTION OF DUES AND VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS, from members, which they are to remit to National Body, for facilitation and logistics. But these individuals misappropriated the Monies collected and mutilated the DATAs collated.
“Due to the woeful betrayal of the trust reposed in them, they were billed to face disciplinary action. Instead of presenting themselves for appropriate disciplinary action, they took to irksome acts of insubordination, diversion of members, promotion of division, spread of mischief, propaganda and outright lies.
“Also, while they were with the Provisionary Committee, they were selfishly bent on getting things done on their terms rather than follow due process for achievement of our collective interest. Their argument was that they would be confirmed for the positions of Director General or Commandant, Heads of Directorates and Management Level of the yet to be established Coast Guard.
“They contended that they are the right persons for those positions. My advised to them that such would impinge on Mr. President’s constitutional right of appointment and confirmation by the Senate, would not assuage them. I reiterated that, such is not the practice. For my stand, they became unbecoming in their pursuit, leading to forming camps and claiming adulterated Nigerian Coast Guard
Bill Titles: Claimers or Promoters of such altered Bills are aware of the Provisionary Committee’s steady follow-up action on the NIGERIAN COAST GUARD (Establishment) Bill which is already before the 10th Senate. They are also aware that the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) is fine tuning the Bill, to enrich its content and to lessen MPs’ stress when presented to the Red and Green Chambers, and to also aid the work of the respective Parliamentary Committees, during its entire processing.
The Authorities and the Public are further informed of the incontrovertible reasons forbringing this information to your gracious domain. These are:
a) The Bill and supporting documents with them, are property of the Provisionary
Committee, which they stole;
b) They embezzled the Provisionary Committee’s monies and Data/Update Forms;
c) They impersonate the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard’s name and image;
d) They diverted members of the Provisionary Committee through falsehood;
e) They breached the trust reposed in them, and they abused common sense;
f) Their action is out of malicious intent, inconsiderate reasoning and selfish;
g) They were intentionally fraudulent by their operation and activities;
h) Their action negates principles of honesty, fairness, accountability and dignity;
i) They evaded disciplinary measures, and constituted rivalry Platforms;
j) They are actively partial and wittingly excluded those that can checkmate them;
k) They created an environment for crisis to thrive so as to achieve their ill-motive;
l) They are pursuing personal interest instead of collective interest;
m) They are interested in dishing out misleading impressions than anything else;
n) The Committee is faithfully facilitating the process in the 10th Assembly;
o) Their action is an unnecessary and inimical to collective national interest;
p) Due process does not encourage jumping the gun and what they are seeking is not a feat they deserve, having stealthily devised this means to spoil and destroy the unity of purpose and Team Spirit for achieving passage of Coast Guard Bill.
The Public and Authorities are informed that the Facilitation Team is actively doing its best with full energy and has put in place skeletal structures for the smooth take-off of the Agency by APPOINTEES of the President of Nigeria, after confirmation by the Senate.
Patriotic Nigerians should resist their overtures; as they do not deserve to be encouraged, aided or abetted, and that tough questions awaits these individuals in due time, with regard to Order
