Dethroned Kano Emir arrested, whisked away by security operatives
The former Emir of Kano State, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was on Monday arrested and immediately whisked away from his palace by security operatives in Kano.
It's not immediately known where he was being taken to, but later information has it that he was being taken to exile in Nasarawa, where he would spend the rest of his life as a former Emir.
CAPITAL POST earlier reports that the State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has dethroned the Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Monday following alledged disrespect for the constituted authority.
The removal which was conveyed in a letter by Secretary to the Kano State government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji was with immediate effect.
The statement gave reasons for the dethronement to be disrespect to the office of the State governor and other government agencies.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, said the removal was with immediate effect.
The emir’s action violated the part 3 section A-E of Kano state law, hence the removal.
He said the removal was in line with consultation with relevant stakeholders.
He said a new emir would be announced in due course.
He urged Kano people to remain calm and go about their normal businesses.
The dethroned Emir has been locked in altercation with the governor for sometimes.
The last was the Emir’s involvement in an alledged land racketeering scandal to the tune of N2 billion.
