BREAKING: Appeal Court sacks Kano governor, Yusuf declares APC’s Gawuna winner
The Court of Appeal on Friday sacked Kano State governor, Abba K. Yusuf and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Nasiru Gawuna winner of the governorship election which held on March 18, 2023.
The Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory in its ruling upheld the verdict of the Tribunal led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay which dethroned Abba Kabiru Yusuf of the New Nigeria Political Party, NNPP on September, 20, 2023.
The lower Court submitted that some result sheets that purportedly gave victory to Yusuf were not signed, thus vitiated the scores as the Court removed 165,663 votes making it the total legal figure at 853,939.
Meanwhile, the scores credited to the rival governorship candidate of the APC, Nasir Gawuna stood at 890,705.
The Court further ruled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was not a member of the NNPP as at the time the elections were conducted and is therefore not qualified to contest for the seat, says the tribunal was wrong not to have disqualified the appellant, Governor Yusuf.
