The Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji on Thursday appealed to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to salvage the party in Enugu state from the antics of two-faced party members in the state.

Nnaji made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit to APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Change of Name

The Minister who lamented that the party never had true and committed members before the 2023 general election appealed to NWC through the National Chairman, to come to the aid of the party in the state in their bid to have true and committed members of the party in the state.

He said, “We worked night and day when we took over the mantle of leadership in the state to bring APC to the people. We visited the nooks and crannies of the state. Sometimes, we began at 8 am and retired at 3 am. The earliest we returned to our homes was 2 am.

“With insecurity everywhere, we visited villages and were never afraid of anything or being attacked.

The minister who accompanied by the state APC Chairman, Hon. Ugochukwu Agballa noted that the party was a shadow of itself in Enugu state with people who never worked or believed in the party parading themselves as APC stalwarts while working for other political parties.

“A lot of people are APC in Abuja, PDP or Labour Party in Enugu state as the case may be. We lost the state to tribal politics. Some who claim to be APC stalwarts have their children in PDP and LP and worked against our party.”

He further complained that they did not only have PDP and LP members to contain in the last general election but also the secret members of other parties in APC who are today enjoying the goodies of the party’s victory.

“Some of the so-called stalwarts campaigned publicly against the party but today, they are enjoying the goodies from the party’s victory. We are here because we want to solicit your support to make our party strong in the state and end the era of ‘monkey dey work, baboon dey chop’ syndrome. He who did not go to war should not eat from the spoil of war.”

Nnaji also commended the party leadership for the success at the just concluded governorship election in Imo state where Governor Hope Uzodimma recorded unprecedented victory in all 27 Local Government areas.

“Your support made it possible for us to use a sledgehammer to kill flies in the last Guber election in Imo state. We thought it was a fight of two elephants but in the end, we found out that there was no contest.”

On his part, the APC National Chairman assured the minister that the party under his leadership will continue to work hard till it is accepted in all nooks and crannies of the country.

He said the party will use Imo and Ebonyi states as a launch pad for APC to capture the remaining three states in the South East geopolitical zone.
