Bello commends peaceful election process, says he will leave Kogi better
In the ongoing Kogi State gubernatorial election, Governor Yahaya Bello expressed optimism about leaving the state in a better condition than when he assumed office. After casting his ballot at his Agaza country home in Okene, Bello commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the electorate for ensuring a peaceful and orderly conduct of the polls.
Addressing the media, Governor Bello dismissed external concerns about the state’s security, stating, “The adverse security image being peddled by the outside world is a creation of the media and a figment of the imagination of those who do not want anything good in our state.” He went on to highlight the success of his administration in addressing security challenges, noting the absence of Boko Haram activities in the state.
“I am not a violent person,” Governor Bello emphasized, pointing out his track record of contesting elections up to the Supreme Court and consistently emerging victorious. He expressed confidence that his successor would build upon the solid foundations laid during his eight-year tenure.
Encouraging citizens to maintain orderliness during the voting process, he said, “On arriving at the polling unit, queue up, wait for your turn, cast your vote, and ensure that your vote is counted. Leave the rest to those in charge.”
As Kogi decides its leadership for the next term, Governor Yahaya Bello remains focused on the progress achieved during his tenure and the prospect of a smoother transition to his successor.
Meanwhile,speaking to journalist shortly after voting at Roman Catholic Mission, Upogoro, Okene Local government, ,Candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Usman Ododo, said “I just cast my vote and, as you can see, it’s just like a carnival. I want to use this medium to commend the INEC management for putting in place a very transparent, hitch-free electoral process. And again, the security agencies are doing very wonderful.
“As you can see, the election is peaceful and orderly. You should know very well that I’m on the ground. This is my village, and I’m close to the people. As you can see, everybody is happy. We are winning and winning very well.”
