BREAKING: Kogi INEC Commissioner rejects N50 million bribe, angrily sent emissaries away
Reports reaching CAPITAL POST indicated that the Independent National Electoral Commissioner in Kogi State Dr Hale Gabriel Longpet on Monday rejected the sum of N50 million sent to him ahead of Saturday’s Governorship election.
A source confided in our correspondent in Lokoja, saying the emissaries from Lugard House explained that the money was meant for logistics of INEC’s office.
Each of the 21 Local Government Councils in the three Senatorial Districts was to receive N10 million.
The source said, the Commissioner became angry and pointedly told the emissaries that they should take their money back to their source and insisted that he would not collect the money.
He sent them back with the money and warned them never to return to INEC office, as he was not ready to compromise.
The INEC Commissioner was quoted to have told the emissaries that logistics for the election has been provided by the INEC National headquarters.
He warned Electoral Officers, EOs at the Local Government levels to be wary of bribe as under cover security agents have been deployed to keep eyes on activities of officials.
Meanwhile, CAPITAL POST reports that security agents could be massively seen in Kogi ahead of Saturday’s Governorship election.
