Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad reacts to NNPP chieftains defection to APC
Former President, Muhammadu Buhari’s aide, Bashir Ahmad has reacted to the defection of three prominent chieftains of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that a former National Chairman of the NNPP, Rufai Alkali, and the party’s governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Senator Sulaiman Hunkuyi, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Also, a former National Legal Adviser of the NNPP and Benue State governorship candidate, Bem Angwe, and 23 other defectors have joined the ruling party.
The National Chairman of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, received the new entrants into the party on Tuesday in Abuja, at the party headquarters.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alkali said they joined the APC because it is the most reliable party for members to achieve progress politically.
Reacting to the development in an X post, Ahmad welcomed the defectors to the APC, which he described as a “great party”.
He wrote: “The former national chairman of the NNPP, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali, and Senator Sulaiman Othman Hunkuyi, candidate of the NNPP in the March 18 governorship election in Kaduna State, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). They are welcome to our great party!”
