FG transfers Emefiele from DSS custody to the EFCC
The Federal Government has transferred , former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Although no official statement to this development, reports suggests that Emefiele was on Thursday moved to the EFCC and is currently under interrogation.
Emefiele had been in the custody of the DSS since his arrest on June 10, after President Bola Tinubu suspended him as CBN Governor on June 9, 2023. On July 25, he appeared before a Federal High Court in Lagos, where he was arraigned on a two-count charge linked to the “illegal possession” of firearms.
However, an additional 20 charges were brought against Emefiele by the Federal Government, which accused him of conspiring to engage in procurement fraud and other illegal activities.
The charges came after a failed attempt by the DSS to rope Emefiele in an alleged firearms charges.
