A victim of the Gwagwalada floods disaster in the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Mallam Danjuma Bilyameenu Siraja, has cried out to well to do individuals and corporate organizations, to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of people affected by the ravanging floods.
He said the affected victims of the floods now leave in serious agony as their belongings were all washed away by the flood which occurred in the early hour of last weekend.
The flood has claimed several lives and property worth millions of naira and has rendered thousand of residents homeless.
Torrential rain which lasted for over four hours has washed away many residential and commercial buildings as places of worships were all submerged by the heavy which caused the floods.
Already, not fewer than 1000 persons were rendered homeless as internally Displayed persons have been evacuated to the camp in some primary schools within Gwagwalada Area Council.
Speaking in a telephone interview with CAPITAL POST at the weekend, Danjuma Siraja, said his households and his car was washed away by the flood.
He said the heavy downpour started at about 3.15 am of that night, while residents were in deep sleep adding that “some of us that were awake only discovered our selves in the already submerged buildings.
“We only resorted to the will of God. The only thing I was able to take out of my house was my credentials and the shirt on me that night.
“My car and all my belongings have been taken away by the ravanging floods.
“Honestly, is a terrible experience that will still remains indelible for a long time.
“We are appealing to the FCT administration, the federal government and well to do individuals as well as Non Governmental Organization (NGOs) to come to our rescue If not, we don’t know where to start.”
He disclosed that as a result of his predicament, he has nothing left him the only thing I can proudly claim as I’m talking to you is my credentials.
“My clothes and all I have suffered to get has been consumed by the floods. But the most important thing is that the life is there. But where will I start from now is the question”? he asked.
Meanwhile, the FCT administration has warned that the administration will descend heavily on people leaving around waterways within the territory.
Equally the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has appealed to residents to desist from dumping of refuse in the drainage to avoid such ugly incidents of floodings in the country.
