The senator who represented Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo on Tuesday evening apologised over his allegation that the Senate President Godswill Akpabio plotted his removal by the Court of Appeal.

Abbo made the apology while speaking in an interview on Arise Television News night.

He stated, “I have to say this with all sense of humility and responsibility that the press release we issued yesterday was premature and based on the available information at our disposal yesterday.

“As of today, we have discovered a lot of things, and yesterday night I had a discussion with the Senate president, and I am convinced that he is not involved.

“I swear by my mother’s grave that I’m not involved; I don’t even know that you’re in court,” he said.

Earlier, Senator Abbo had accused the Senate President of plotting his removal. He also alleged that Akpabio had plans to remove Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the former chief whip of the senate, and four other senators for not supporting his bid for the Senate presidency.

Abbo however described the court’s judgment against him as a “coup on democracy” and called on his supporters to remain steadfast.

The senator also insisted that he had won the February election, even though the court declared the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Amos Yohanna as the winner with a margin of 11,000 votes.

The Court of Appeal had, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of Justices on Monday, set aside the tribunal judgment that had previously affirmed Abbo as the winner of the Senatorial seat. It ruled in favour of the PDP candidate, Amos Yohanna.
