NECO 2023 Examination: 12,030 candidates involved in malpractices against 2022’s 13,500 – Registrar/CEO

The Registrar and Chief Executive of National Examination Council, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi has disclosed that a total of twelve thousand and thirty candidates allegedly involved in various forms of examination malpractices in 2023 Senior Secondary Examination.

He stated that the 2023 Internal examination malpractices is against thirteen thousand, five hundred ninety four recorded in 2022.

He revealed further that fifty two supervisors were also recommended for blacklisting as a result of poor supervision, Aiding and abetting during the conduct of 2023 examination.

Prof. Wushishi made the disclosure at a news briefing to release the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) at the NECO Headquarters in Minna on Tuesday said ninety three schools and supervisors were found to have been involved in whole school mass cheating.

He explained that the affected erring schools and the supervisors will be invited by the council for further discussion, after which appropriate sactions will be applied accordingly.

According to the Registrar, a total of 1,205,888 registered for the examination representing 621,084 makes and 584,804 females adding that a total of 1,196, 985, representing 616,398 makes and 580,587 females. out of which a total of 737,308 of candidates made five credits and above in English and mathmatics.

He disclosed further that out of candidates that sat for the exams, 616,398 were males while 580,587 were females just as Candidates with Special needs was 1,542 respectively.

Prof Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi stated that 12, 030 (007) were involved in various examination frauds against the 13, 594 (0.13) percent candidates involved 2022

The Registrar explained that the 2023 NECO SSCE Internal examination has been certified the best in the recent times while he Appreciating the federal Ministry of education and the minister for the support received which contributed immensely for the success recorded

He disclosed that Abia state is leading with the best performing results of the year 2023, scoring 85 percent while Yobe State taking the bottom with 59 percent as released officially to the general public.
