Kogi Guber: Edward Onoja’s ally, Fanisi Babatunde quits APC, says party has derailed
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC and an ally of the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Fanisi Babatunde has resigned his membership of the APC.
Babatunde who holds PhD, hails from Yagba East Senatorial District and worked closely with Chief Onoja in influencing the party in Kogi West.
In a letter of resignation which he addressed to the Ward Chairman, Ward 06 in Yagba East Local Government Council, the politician said he has reflected on the happenings in Kogi APC and realised that he has to quit the APC on personal ground.
He noted that his beliefs and values were no longer allowing his conscience to remain in APC, the party having derailed completely from its ideology in the State.
A copy of the letter which was obtained by CAPITAL POST on Wednesday in Lokoja, he lauded Chief Onoja for mentoring him politically and added that his resignation was not evil intended, while he called for continued fraternity with old folks in APC.
Part of the letter read: “I have faith in my ability to make the right choices that align with my personal beliefs and values and at this moment, my conscience has led me away from the party.
“I have come to the realization that our ideologies and beliefs are no longer closely aligned. I believe that it is crucial to adhere to my principles.
“I want to affirm that my decision to resign is a personal one. I do not have any ill-motive or intentions, and I hold the party in high regard, but I cannot continue to be associated with it due to differences in beliefs and values.”
Babatunde tendered resignation of his membership of APC, almost a month to the Governorship election that APC is losing grip daily.
Meanwhile, a top source confided in CAPITAL POST that the Deputy Governor who is number two on Ododo Campaign team has travelled abroad on medical vacation to return in January, 2024.
There is an unconfirmed report that Babatunde may join the Social Democratic Party before the election.
