BREAKING: Organised Labour, FG, reach truce, may suspend planned nationwide indefinite strike

Reports from the Organised Labour and the Federal government at a meeting which held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Sunday night indicated that the planned indefinite strike may be suspended.

President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero speaking with journalists after a four-hour meeting, said the N25,000 announced by President Bola Tinubu in his Independence Day anniversary broadcast is now applicable across board and not only “low-grade worker”.

He revealed that the 7.5% Value Added Tax, VAT has been removed from diesel in order to reduce the price of the product that is mostly used to power generating plants in factories and offices.

The NLC and the Trade Union Congress are expected to address workers on the outcome of the meeting and the announcement of the suspension of the planned indefinite strike before Tuesday, 3rd October.

As dialogue between the Organised Labour and the Federal government continue on Monday, the issue of fuel subsidy removal was expected to be addressed.

Sunday’s meeting was chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Others were the Minister of Budget and National Planning; Atiku Bagudu; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejiocha and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
