BREAKING: Strike: NLC, FG in talks at Aso Rock presidential villa
Ahead of strike due to commence on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2023 by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, the Federal Government has invited the union and they are currently in talks at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
The meeting is taking place behind closed doors with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu present.
Reports said the meeting which is at the instance of President Tinubu is meant to avert the looming strike.
CAPITAL POST reports that the minute effort by the Federal Government was to persuade the NLC and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria to shelve their strike plans.
Representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress at the meeting are the NLC President, Joe Ajaero; the TUC’s Secretary, Nuhu Toro and his NLC counterpart, Emma Ugbaja.
The FG’s team is led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Other members of the government team include the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong; the Minister of State, Nkeiruka Onyejecha; the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Beta Edu.
Also present are some directors from the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
