Delta Federal Lawaker decries 36 months electricity blackout in Constituency

Member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency of Delta State, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi has expressed concern over a total black out in his Constituency for 36 month now.

Expressing his grievances in a sponsored motion which was read an the floor of the House of Representatives during plenary on Tuesday, the lawmaker called on the Federal Ministry of Power and Transmission Company of Nigeria the expedite project and return light to the affected communities.

Change of Name

The motion noted that Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency is host to the 960 megawatts Okpai Independent Power Plant, which plays a significant role in supplying electricity to Anambra, Enugu and Abuja, making it a crucial asset for the nation’s power distribution system.

Concerned that despite its significant role in power supply as well as hosting several Oil Companies including the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), Sterling Exploration andEnergy Production company (SEEPCO), Midwestern Oil and Gas limited, Energia limited, Pillar Oil limited, Chorus Energy limited, communities in Ndokwa /Ukwuani Federal constituency lack electricity supply, which is impeding socio-economic progress in the area.

Accordingly, he maintained that ” in 2021, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) awarded the contract sum of about 4.2 billion naira for construction of a 132KV Double Circuit transmission line to address the electricity needs of the Ndokwa/Ukwuani communities, but the project could not be completed due to lack of adequate funding.”

The Federal lawmaker stressed the need to prioritize the electrification project in Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal constituency to reduce the untold hardship the people have faced despite their contribution to the power sector.

While speaking with group of news men in his office, Hon. Ezechi blamed government and the companies that are benefiting directly from the area for refusing to contribute to the growth of the communities that they are benefiting from.

“Like everyone knows that companies are out to maximize profits, therefore what ever that can take out their profit will be avoided, so in many occasions these companies go on divide and rule to cut their expenses and that is why there is always crises in an oil producing communities”.

Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi assured the good people of Ndokwa Ukwuani Federal Constituency of good representation that under his watch no body can surcharge what belong to the constituents and urged the people of Ndokwa Ukwuani Federal Constituency to be law abiding that very soon there will be smile on their faces.

Hon. Ezechi appreciated his colleagues at the blue chamber of their support to restore the joy of his people and also commend the good leadership of Rt. Honorable Tajudeen Abbas of his quick response to any national issues that is before him.

Therefore the House resolved that Federal Ministry of Power and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to urgently provide required funds to ensure completion of the Okpai–Kwale Transmission Line Project in Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal constituency of Delta State.

Further mandates the Committee on Power to ensure that bottlenecks mitigating against the completion of the project are effectively addressed and the project is completed in due time.
