Tension in Niger mining community as three corpses discovered in bush
The Police authority in Niger State has commenced investigation into the discovery of three copses of teenagers found in a mining community of Gonkopi area of Maintubi in Bosso Local Goverment in Niger State.
The teenagers’ corpses were said to have been discovered in the bush around the mining site in the early hours of Tuesday, by some locals residing within the mining community and it was reported to the police in Maitunbi Divisional Police command.
CAPITAL POST gathered that upon the receipt of the report, the police in Maitunbi swiftly moved to the mining site to evacuate their already decomposed bodies to the mortuary.
It was gathered that the activities of ilegal miners in the site has become a sort of nightmare to the community and the residents of community have on several ocassions prevailed on the youths who are into the ilegal mining on the site to desist.
Already, there is a palpable tension in the community as some youths in the Captain Taylor area within the community have vowed to attack the community for the killing of the teenagers by yet to be identified killers.
In an telephone interview with the CAPITAL POST in Minna, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), in the state, Abiodun Wasiu ASP, confirmed the report and that the police are already on the trail “of the gunmen that carried out the killing of the teenagers”.
He said, “a case of culpable homicide was reported to the command that some teenagers of ages between 17 and 18 were discovered somewhere in Gonkopi area of Maintubi and we are investigating the case after the completion of our investigations I will get back to you.
I can confirmed to you that, it is a case of culpable homicide of some teenagers that were reported and the command is currently investigating the case.
“I think you need the confirmation of the case? I have confirmed it to you and we are investigating the case. Is that all”? Wasiu told the CAPITAL POST.
