Four suspected kidnappers killed by Police, AK47 rifle, 25 ammunition recovered in Delta

The police in Delta State have engaged in gun duel with kidnappers leading to the killing of four members of the gang.
During the encounter, gun battle, one AK47 rifle, one magazine and 25 rounds of 7.22 mm ammunition were recovered from the criminals.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, in a statement made available to journalists in Asaba confirmed that the incident took place.

Change of Name

Edafe, revealed that operatives were deployed on the order of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass to the Jesse’s axis of the State on September 12, 2023 due to incessant cases of kidnappings.

He said that on September 18, 2023, during a joint patrol along Jesse-Igueleba in Edo State, the team encountered a gang of armed bandits who laid wait in the bush to attack and kidnap unsuspecting motorists.

The police image maker added that the hoodlums who apparently sighted the police team, fired at the front tyre of the lead-pickup van, thus demobilising the vehicle.

“They were swiftly engaged in a gun duel by members of the police team.

The armed men eventually succumbed to the superior firepower of the policemen who pursued them into the deep forest during which four suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded.

One AK47 rifle with 25 rounds of live ammunition were recovered. The wounded suspects were taken to the hospital for treatment where they were later certified dead,” Edafe said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, while applauding the gallantry of the men urged them to do more to sustain the tempo in the fight against kidnapping and other vices.

He also appealed to members of the public to provide the command with credible information that would help the police in this fight.
