Litigants should arm themselves with evidence before going to Tribunal on election matters – Kolo

The Special Adviser to the governor of Niger State on Political Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Nma Kolo, has said he has learnt lessons in the ongoing judgment being delivered at the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.

He stated that one of the lesson he learnt from the number of judgment delivered so far in the tribunal will prepare him to get the necessary and factual documents before approaching the tribunal to file his petition.

He noted that as politicians the need for them to get themselves abreast with the provision of the electoral act and other relevant books on Electoral related matters cannot be overemphasized, stressing that it will be of necessity for politicians to avoid rushing to tribunal without any proof to pursue the case.

The Political adviser told Journalists in an interview shortly after judgment delivery on the Petition filed against Senator Mohammed Sani Musa by Barrister Ibrahim Isyaku, SAN at the Minna High court complex.

According to Nma Kolo, it is now clear that Electoral related litigations could not be easily established in tribunal without any evidence and proof to butress the allegations raised in your petition noting that “it is either you get your documents and your evidences right before approaching the tribunal otherwise you mess yourself up in the Tribunal”

Alhaji Nma Kolo admonished politicians to always exhibits the high level of sportsmanship in an election by accepting defeat in an election. This he noted “will further nurture our democracy better than going to tribunal to challenge your defeat.”

He called on those that lost out in the tribunal to come on board to build our state together regardless of political affiliation stating that Niger State belong to “all of us and our political differences should not create unnecessary acrimony among us.

“Let us come together to build the state”, he told journalists.

He described the judiciary as the last hope of the oppressed in the society with the quality of judgment been delivered in recent times is an indication that justice is for both the rich and the common man.

“But again you can’t just go and get Justice without any substantial evidences for you to think of getting justice is not possible”
