Tension in Kogi as gunmen in Police uniform kidnapped traditional ruler from palace
Tension has gripped residents of Ofugo town as unknown gunmen who disguised themselves as Police detectives whisked away Chief Abdulkerim Aliyu, the district head of Ofugo at Opulega in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The kidnappers invaded the traditional ruler’s palace on Saturday at about 7.30pm and pretended to be Police detectives and whisked him away from his palace without suspicion by those who were around, only for the gunmen to start demanding for N5 million ransom the following day.
Eye witness explained that the kidnappers came to the traditional ruler’s house and claimed that they were police detectives from Kogi State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Lokoja, and took him away in his Lexus Jeep for an undisclosed interview at their headquarters.
An eye witness who revealed his name as Danladi Jibo, said, “His Lexus jeep was seen parked around Ikanekpo, a village before Opulega on Anyigba – Ankpa road on Sunday.
“That was when it dawned on us that the district head was kidnapped and not under arrest.
“His kidnappers have put a call to the members of his family, demanding N5 million ransom.”
However, as at the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, has not made official confirmation of Aliyu’s abduction nor responded to inquiries on the incident.
