In the last five years, the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) office under the Presidency, and now under the new Ministry of Humanitatian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Developement with the input of the Special Adviser to the President, Princess Adejoke Orelope- Adefulire has made a remarkable impact towards bridging the gap of social stratification in and around the country.
SDGs, a global intervention project metamorphosed from the popular Millennium Developement Goals (MDGs), with the mandate to mitigate all social problems, both developing and underdeveloped countries of the world, with a view to attaining good quality of lives among ordinary people.
This was greatly achieved through the Millennium Developement Goals (MDGs) and is being sustained with the conception of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); with a view to attaining all critical goals that bothers on human existence world over between now and 2030 target.
With the appointment of Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire in the last five years, it had been success story from one end to another, particularly in the area of intervention Projects and Constituency projects of the Federal Lawmakers.
Versed in both human Management and administrative wisdom, the Princess of Lagos chiefdom and former Deputy Governor swung into action, being guided with the global mandate of the agency through provision of social services like Water, Light, Electricity, Health as well as gainful engagements to the people through direct and indirect format inline with global expectations.
Adefulire inspite of inadequate budgetary provisions, had met the yearnings and expectations of ordinary Nigerians through the provision of basic social amenities to ensure a healthy living, and bridge social disequilibrium among Nigerians in line with the global agenda.
Her strides in the new SDGs had encouraged many Lawmakers both in the Green and Red chambers to domicile their Constituency projects basically meant to ameliorate the critical situation of the downtrodden in the society, through provision of agricutural inputs like fertilisers and insecticides, empowerment items that give gainful employment to the jobless youths, construction of Hospitals and provision of Hospital equipment to their various Constituents, trainings and re-trainings of youths through skill acquisition and capacity building laced with adequate supervision to ensure strict compliance both with contractual agreement and completion in line with job specifications.
This is an addition to providing direct intervention by the agency in all areas of educational developement, health, roads and rural infrastructural upliftment, that had being the cardinal objectives of the present leadership of SDGs in Nigeria.
Envisaging the down turn as a result of the global pandemic of COVID-19, the Sustainable Development Goals under her leadership had made proactive decision and measures to combat the growing effects of the scourge, through public procurement of its jobs to address the effects of the disease.
This is in addition to her efforts to address similar situation at the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, through the usual provision of funds and projects specifications strictly monitored from the head office in Abuja.
Her intentions to achieve the 17 goals of SDGs, and possibly expand similar scope to meet the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians in the emergency post COVID-19 period, is uncompromised through her determination to achieve results.
With her strides, the global body is expected to take Nigeria to the promise land of equal social, economic and educational upliftment between now and 2030, in line with the goals of SDGs.
