Drama as Edo governor’s security aide denies Shaibu access to Obaseki [Photos]
On Sunday, a mild drama playout at Interdenominational Thanksgiving Church Service to mark Edo’s 32nd year anniversary, held at the Festival Hall, Government House as a security detail of governor Godwin Obaseki restrained the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu from having access to him.
The embattled deputy governor could be seen trying to reach out to the governor, but was stopped by a security aide.
In photos which have gone viral on social media platforms and obtained by CAPITAL POST on Monday, governor Obaseki could be seen sitting with his wife, while his wife was also looking at the drama being played out as the security aide engaged the deputy governor.
The intention of the deputy governor was not known at the time, he wanted to access governor Obaseki.
The governor and his deputy have been at loggerheads over Shaibu’s rumoured 2024 governorship ambition.
Speaking with journalists after the event, Shaibu pledged his loyalty to Obaseki, saying that he is his elder brother.
He said his loyalty to the governor despite the frosty relationship has nothing to do with his ambition to become the governor of Edo State.
The deputy earlier travelled on vacation to the United States of American only to return and ran into stormy waters with his boss over his rumoured governorship ambition.
The deputy governor said, “My loyalty to the governor remains absolute. I see that everybody is in solidarity. I am also in solidarity with the governor. I am also declaring my unalloyed loyalty to the governor and nothing more.”
“As for the issues that are around town when I was away, I really would not want to talk about them, especially about the governor. He is my elder brother and boss and I don’t think I should talk about anything.
