Former House Speaker, Dogara returns to APC
Former House of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara has returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was accompanied to the villa on Friday by the chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Committee, Mai Mala Buni.
Receiving the former Speaker, President Muhammadu Buhari expressed joy that he is back to APC fold.
Dogara declined speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with Buhari, where he announced his defection.
However, Buni who is also the governor of Yobe State told journalists that they were rebuilding the party and were in the villa to consult President Buhari.
Reacting to questions about being accompanied by Yakubu Dogara, Buni said: “People shouldn’t be surprised because the former Speaker is a member of the APC and it is because the reason why he left the APC is no more there.”
“Yes, Dogara is back”, saying President Buhari is happy about that.
“He (the President) welcomed him. He is happy with the development. That is what he’s looking for.
“We are rebuilding the party and these are the steps we are taking towards rebuilding the party.”
According to Buni, the APC caretaker committee is meetingball aggrieved members of the party in order to return them back.
“That is what will bring the consolidation of the party, the rebuilding of the party. Without doing justice, you cannot achieve that and we are sure of doing justice to all our members,” he said.
He said they would rebuild the APC that will outlive everyone, noting that it wasn’t about 2023 as being insinuated in some quarters.
“It is not only about specific time or period, it is not about election, it is not about electioneering. It is about building a party.”
