Abia APC caucus rejects NWC nominee
Abia State All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus has rejected the nomination of Hon. Donatus Nwankpa as the new National Welfare Secretary of the ruling party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The new National Welfare Secretary is replacing Late Friday Nwosu who died in March this year.
Briefing journalists after submitting a petition at the APC headquarters in Abuja on Friday, Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka who spoke on behalf of the caucus said the process to which the NWC carried out the replacement was unsatisfactory.
According to them, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ben Kalu who is the leader of the party in Abia state and other stakeholders were not consulted in the nomination.
“Considering that Abia APC does not have a Governor and that the Deputy Speaker who is the leader of the party in the state and the Stakeholders were not carried along by the NWC in reaching their decision, we hereby call on our National Chairman and the NWC to revisit their earlier decision.
“May we also call the attention of the President, the leader of our great party to this passionate appeal that will help Abia APC heal from the wounds inflicted on us by similar act of external interference in the activities of our State chapter in times past and allow us to unite and reposition Abia APC for greater prospects under the God-given leadership of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives”, they added.
Some of the caucus members who submitted the petition are Senator Chris Adighije, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, Dr Emeka Wogu, and former Acting Governor of Abia state, Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka.
Others are Dr Chidia Maduekwe, Chief Marshall Wokocha, Rev. Sally William-Chinedu, Chief Adokiye Dans, Sam Onuigbo, Nze Esiaga, Chief Daniel Akwari, Chibuike Jonas, Chief Ikenna Ariwodo, Chief Mary Ikoku and Dr Onyinye Rufus-Obi.
