Proposed Kogi University of Science and Technology: Yahaya Bello’s conduit pipe to loot the State – Group
Kogi Patriotic Group (KPG), has described as irrational the decision of Kogi State government to propose a new University of Science and Technology at Osara.
The group’s image maker, Abdul Abdul bare his mind in Abuja, that the decision at this point in time lack both economic, political and social relevance to the development of Kogi State.
The image maker says a government that could not fund an existing State University, but thinking of another similar institution is bereft of ideas.
“In the last four years, some staffers of the Kogi State University were unceremoniously laid off without many months salary payment, others cleared up till now could not access monthly salary,to compound the whole situation, State workers are being paid percentage salaries, so what is the idea behind all this?
“Some lecturers in the Kogi State University, Kogi State College of Education at Ankpa and Kabba, College of Health Technology and College of Nursing and Midwifery both in Obangede and Idah were not salaried for many months now, yet governor Yahaya Bello want to establish similar edifice for lack of political wisdom.
“This is a State that cannot account for both monthly and yearly internally generated revenue to even know whether it has the capacity to fund such a gigantic project, yet it is embarking on another round of fund wastage.
The group challenged the State government to publish the audited account of the State in the last four years of its first tenure, for public consumption, rather than embarking on chasing of wild goose.
Abdul maintained that Kogi State, that is suffering from the dearth of both infrastructural and social developement is thinking of creating more problems for ulterior motives.
The group says it is not unaware of plans by the State government to sell legacy projects of Kogi state to its cronies, to fund the politically motivated institution, that will not stand the test of time.
“How can a government that abandoned a University Teaching Hospital project, refuse to fund the Medical, Pharmacy and other critical departments established by the previous administration, contemplate a new institution for the state to achieve its egoistic tendencies.
He warned on the possible consequences of going ahead with such unpopular decision, saying the indices of developement does not condone a new ivory tower.
