Screening confusion: Akpabio rushes to villa for ‘briefing’ over Keyamo
Following the pandemonium rocking the Senate on Monday over the ministerial screening of Barrister Festus Keyamo, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who is seemingly at a loss on how best to handle the controversy has rushed to the Villa to be briefed on what to do.
Though, his mission to the Villa was not known, Akpabio who looks worried might have been to the villa over the imbroglio on the screening of the former Minister of State for Employment, Labour and Productivity.
Earlier, Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Darlington Nwokocha queried the Ministerial nominee for blocking the House of Representatives from oversighting his Ministry over the N52 billion social works funds which he supervised as Minister of State.
The altercation deepened when the Delta Senator moved a motion for the suspension of Keyamo’s screening which was seconded by Senator Ennyinnaya Abaribe from Abia State.
Nwokocha said during the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Keyamo was invited to explain a Special Public Works programme but he didn’t honour the invitation.
Akpabio’s request for voice votes divided the Senators who became rancorous.
To stem the tide of pandemonium, Senate Leader, Michael Bamidele Opeyemi sought for a close door through a motion and was sustained.
