Nigeria Senate on Tuesday in an adopted resolution on security concerns in Nigeria urged all the Service Chiefs to resign immediately.

Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi representing Osun East Senatorial in an amendment to a resolution said:

Change of Name

“Mr President, distinguished colleagues, I want to add to other resolutions that all the Service Chiefs should step down.

Senator Betty Apiafi seconded the motion, saying that all Service Chiefs should step down.

Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan in his remark expressed concern that soldiers are deserting war fronts, saying it is dangerous to Nigeria’s national security.

Senate’s position followed an earlier debate on a motion sponsored by Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South Senatorial through Order 42 and 52 stating that Nigerian soldiers are daily losing their lives to bandits.

In the motion, Ndume who is the Chairman of Senate Committee on Army insisted that something was wrong with the military, asserting that the Senate need to intervene.

According to him, some military officers have resigned due to poor equipment used to fight the terrorists.
