Prostitution: Edo women most trafficked in the world – Report
Report has shown that 94% of Nigerian women trafficked to Europe and other parts of the world comes from Edo State, South-south, Nigeria.
According to International Organisation on Migration (IOM), ladies from Edo State migrates to Italy in droves as commercial sex workers and other forms of whore activities.
“Edo State has long been an internationally recognised sex trafficking hub, with built-in infrastructure and networks which support the sale of human bodies.”
The report was corroborated with that of a 2003 United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute which pointed out that every family in Benin has a family member trafficked.
“Virtually, every Benin family has one member or the other involved in trafficking either as a victim, sponsor, madam or trafficker”, Report showed.
The bizare index of Benin women’s prostitution led to the creation of an agency by the incumbent governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki known as “Edo State Taskforce on Human Trafficking”, in August to tackle to the menace.
