There are indications that Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore will be resigning their positions as the National Chairman and Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is as plot to exit the duo from office heightened over the weekend.

Change of Name

Adamu and Omisore have been facing battles from some party members since the party won the 2023 general election.

Multiple sources within the party said that the gang up of opposition against the two leaders of the party’s highest administrative organ seem too be swelling.

It was gathered that a very powerful force which have the blessings of some serving and former governors, some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and some party chieftains are plotting the removal of the chairman and the secretary.

CAPITAL POST also learnt that a list of Adamu’s “sins” have since been forwarded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently in Kenya on official assignment.

A source privy to the internal workings of the party revealed that some bigwigs who got wind of the plot are likely to meet with Adamu on Sunday night or early Monday to pressure him into resigning rather than been shown the exit door at the NEC meeting slated for Wednesday.

“The truth is that some bigwigs in the party are no longer comfortable with Adamu, they are bent on removing him and the National Secretary. They have compiled their sins, presented to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and are ready to send them out of office during the NEC meeting of Wednesday.

“But in order to mitigate the attendant impact such removal will have on the party and the new administration, a group of party stalwarts are likely to meet with the chairman tonight (Sunday night) or early Monday to advise him into resigning rather than been shown the exit door at the NEC meeting slated for Wednesday”.

Another source in the party said that the former Nasarawa State governor, who has called for a meeting of the NWC may be throwing his towel at a crucial meeting slated for 12 noon on Monday at the NWC Hall of the National Secretariat of the party.

“A meeting of NWC has been called for Monday at the instance of the National Chairman. As usual no agenda is on the notice of the meeting. The feelers I am having is that the Chairman may be throwing in his towel at that meeting. The truth is the whole matter is enveloped in a lot of secrecy”.

It was further learnt that the NEC meeting is likely to approve a timetable for a midterm elective convention to fill party vacancies.

“You know we lost the National Welfare Secretary, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary resigned and if the Chairman and the Secretary are made to resign, the NEC will have to approve a midterm elective national convention of the party to fill the vacant positions,” the source disclosed.
