Illegal Chinese miners funding bandits in Nasarawa – Governor Sule
Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule has disclosed that insecurity in Nasarawa State was caused by Chinese mining Lithium illegally in the State.
The governor said companies that are mining Lithium and other mineral resources across Nasarawa State are owned by China nationals, who sneaked into the State in connivance with some locals to embark on illegal mining.
He said, the illegal miners are funding bandits in the State while seeking for protection which they the money to acquire weapons.
The insecurity in Nasarawa was becoming out of proportion as bandits have taken over forests and are attacking communities, killing farmers and raping women.
The governor stated this on his verified Twitter handle, saying that the rich Lithium in Nasarawa was reason insecurity thrives.
The governor wrote: “Chinese companies are illegally mining Lithium and causing insecurity in his State and the region, is maddening.”
Lithium is used to make batteries and its price rose as high as $80k/MT from $7k due to its usefulness.
