BREAKING: Ekiti Lawmaker, Opeyemi, emerges Senate Leader
Senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Michael Bamidele Opeyemi has emerged Senate Leader.
In the same vein, Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District Ali Ndume emerged Chief Whipof the 10th Senate.
Both principal officers were announced after a close-door meeting chaired by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabío.
The development followed the resumption of the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday.
The principal officers of the upper and lower legislative Chambers are traditionally nominated by the political party leadership and to be ratified by the Chambers during plenaries.
The 10th Senate with Senator Godswill Akpabío as President has been festered with conflict of interest, particularly the Senate Leader.
On Tuesday, CAPITAL POST obtained a list from a credible source as likely to be the All Progressives Congress position of its principal officers as follows:
1. Senate Leader -Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central, Southwest Senate Leader);
2. Senate Deputy Leader – Dave Umahi (Ebonyi South, Southeast, Deputy Senate Leader);
3. Senate Chief Whip – Ali Ndume (Borno South, Northeast, Chief Whip)
4. Senate Deputy Chief Whip – Lola Ashiru (Kwara South, Northcentral, Deputy Chief Whip).
The list was sustained by the Senate as earlier recommended tj the APC.
