BREAKING: Many people feared dead, others trapped as 4-storey building collapses in Abuja
A four storey building has collapsed on Monday at Life Camp in Jabi area, Abuja, in the Federal Capital Territory.
The collapsed building which is under construction was supposed to be used for hotel accommodation, but went down when site workers were working on it.
The incident occurred at about 4:00pm and it was gathered that the building collapse shortly after the Engineer supervising the construction left the site.
The cause of its collapse was not immediately known, but the building could be seen located at a swampy area called Dape near Berger Clinic.
It is unconfirmed if the swampy area or the use of substandard was responsible for the incident.
Also the officers of FCT Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigerian police responded to the distress call and immediately moved to the site and were rescuing casualties at the time of filing the report.
Some of the officials of Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA ) sighted at the scene declined comment as they insisted on saving the lives of those that were trapped.
