Pass Nigerian Coast Guard Bill into law to generate revenue – CEO, Ichaba
The lawmakers of the 10th National Assembly have been told to accelerate passage of the Nigerian Coast Guard Bill into law to generate revenue and create job opportunities for the teeming youths in Nigeria.
Coast Guard is a Sea Military Security, Service Provider that performs an array of specialized multi-mission duties of maritime law enforcement, management of the security of the waterway transportation.
In a statement which was signed by the Captain of the Chaplaincy Corps and CEO of the Provisionary Committee, Mr Noah Ichaba, and made available to CAPITAL POST in Abuja on Tuesday, he said the bill when signed into law would legally position the Nigerian Coast Guard to generate huge revenue for the Federal Government and generate employment opportunities for the teeming youths across the country.
The call, the CEO said, has become necessary now that lawmakers gets set to carry out the demanding task of legislation, stressing that, “it is apt to ask everyone to embrace the unbeatable reality and fact that the impending agency is a child of necessity that is central to the success of maritime security, promotion of the economy, creation of millions of jobs, national image enhancer and pride of maritime stakeholders.”
While expressing the belief that the bill would be passed into law in good time, he cautioned Nigerians not to fall victim of mischievous misadventure by contemnors seeking relevance and opportunity to make dishonest livelihood.
Part of the statement averred: “This piece of advice is important because the facilitation team is the driver, – the followers are the vehicle, the Bill is the destination, the legality of the proposed agency is the vision, a better maritime security is the target, rightly placing Nigeria among Maritime Nations of the world is the purpose, generating handsome “revenue for government is the fulfilment, putting money in the pockets of its
workforce is the mission.
“Placing food on the table of respective families is the accomplishment and ending sorrowful stories in maritime security sector and joblessness is the attestation that the Provisionary Committee of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard is relentlessly and selflessly pursuing.
“These duties are different from the duties of the maritime commercial service providers that are responsible for carrying cargoes from one sea port destination to another sea port destination, across the world and that that is meant for the defence of the territorial integrity of the nation against external aggression.”
The statement said, the proposed agency would break the yoke of debt burden on the nation and further serve as Nigeria’s competitive strength.
