The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has transmitted a letter to the detained former Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), saying he was not being held by the Police.

In a letter addressed to the lawyer with reference number: CB:7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.489/171, dated 14th July 2020 on Wednesday, IGP Adamu stressed that Magu was being detained by not being detained by the panel investigating his activities while at the EFCC.

Part of the letter reads: “Your letter 00C/TOL/89A/07/2020 of 10th July 2020 on the above-underlined subject refers:

“The Inspector-General of Police directs that your attention be drawn to the fact that the Nigeria Police Force is not investigating C.P. Ibrahim Magu (your client) and he is not accordingly, not being detained by the police but by the presidential panel that is investigating the activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The IGP told Magu that he was not being investigated by the Police, but the inter-agency presidential panel led by the former Chief Judge of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami.

Magu who is a Commissioner of Police has been detained for ten days now while is being quizzed daily for interrogations, following a petition alleging corruption against him by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

The IGP’s letter was in response to a letter written by the embattled EFCC boss’s lawyer, Wahab Shittu asking the Police boss to bail his client.

The Police boss advised Magu’s lawyer to re-direct his request to the Chairman of the presidential panel for appropriate attention, insisting that Police has no hand in his detention.
