Kogi guber: Accord Party candidate, Usman vows to tackle insecurity
Vice Admiral Jibrin Oyibe Usman on Saturday vowed to address security concerns in Kogi State, using his military background through synergy among the various security agencies.
The ex-Chief of Naval Staff stated this at his unveiling as the candidate of the Accord Party at Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Council, stating that he was prepared to tackle insecurity headlong if sworn into office as the Executive governor of Kogi State in January, 2024.
Usman explained that the state needed peace in all fronts and he was prepared to restore peace across the three Senatorial flanks.
The event witnessed prominent politicians in attendance from the three Senatorial Districts and a turnout of crowd of well wishers and political supporters.
In his speech, Usman emphasized that his administration’s foremost commitment would be to address security concerns, drawing on his extensive military background. He articulated, “I will accord utmost importance to peace, security, and stability, as these are the fundamental responsibilities of any responsible government.
“Working closely with all security agencies, we will ensure the maintenance of law and order.”
He condemned the killing of a young man in Ejule in Kogi East Senatorial district by the state sponsored operation, stressing that youths should not allow themselves to be used as pawns, after which politicians will turn against them for not supporting their selfish ambition.
The candidate said, his administration would create a conducive environment for youths to strive for personal growth and promised that his administration would generate employment opportunities for the state’s young population once he assumed office.
Among the esteemed attendees at the unveiling ceremony were the former deputy governor Simon Achuba, the national chairman and state chairman of the Accord Party, Senator Barr. Emmanuel Ocheja Dangana, Senator Nicholas Yahaya Ugbane, DIG Iyaji, retired military chiefs, as well as representatives from units and ward executives.
Additionally, former accountant general of Kogi State, James Ubolo, former commissioner, Positive Ihiabe, former House of Representatives members from Dekina, former Treasurer to Ijumu LGA, Mr. Lawrence Madaki, representatives of the Organized Private Sector Bodies and the former speaker of the state House of Assembly were all present.
In his address, former deputy governor Simon Achuba implored the people of Kogi State to liberate themselves from fear of the current government even now and during the governorship election. He pointed out that allowing the current administration’s continuity through proxies is an outright doom and self-defeat.
He urged the people to exercise their voting power by utilizing their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to ensure Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman’s victory in the November election.
