Banditry in Niger: DSS nabs two, arraigned in court

The Directorate Of Security Services ( DSS), Niger State Command has arrested two syndicate that are in the business of supplying arms and Miltary Comouflage it Uniforms to armed bandits.

The two suspects who are indegenes of Plataeu State were picked in their residence in Borgu in Niger State by the operatives of the secret agency.

Their arrest were effected through a vital and reliable intelligence gathering mechanism put in place by the operatives.

The suspects, Napas Kefas, and Caleb Gavers known as Dan Daura both a New Bussa based Vetinary Doctors were said to have a link with a notorious armed bandits kingpin who has been on the wanted lists of security agencies in the last two years

The Kingpin, Dogo Gadi, was said to have engaged the Vetenary Doctors in the treatment of his rustled cattles and other animals in one of his camp located along Kamuku forest in Niger and Zamfara State.

Meanwhile, CAPITAL POST reliably gathered that the suspects were personal Vetenary Doctors to Dogo Gadi that has been treating his animals in most of his dreaded camp located in some forests within and outside Niger State.

It was further gathered that the Vetenary Doctors have so far supplied some sophisticated snipper guns and substantial numbers of military camouflage uniforms to the kingpin amounting to hundreds thousands of naira.

The two suspects have so far confessed that the bandit called them through their handsets and engaged them as his personal Vetenary doctors that have been treating his catlles and other animals for the past two years.

Dogo Gadi, a notoriety in kindapping and catle rustling activities has wrecked untold havock around Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Niger states within the last three years.

His banditry activities has so far claimed lives and dispossed villagers of millions of naira within the last three years. As a result of his notoriety in banditry, he has been envading arrest by security agencies across the North West and some part of North Central States just as some of his gangs are in various detention facilities across some part of the North West.

Already, the two Vetenary Doctors have been arraigned before the Minna Chief Magistrate Court No.1 on three count charges where their plea were taken before the presiding Chief Magistrate, Nasiru Mua’zu.

“When the charges preferred against them were read to them by the Chief Magistrate, they pleaded not guilty to the charges while the Director of Public Prosecutor in the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Moses Chiroma told the court that he will need a new date to prepare for the Prosecution of the case.

Their defence counsel, Barrister Emmanuel Zakariya, however, moved an oral application for their bail but the Chief Magistrate advised that he should apply in writing and adjougned to friday, 17th July, 2020 to rule on the application.

He then ordered that they should be kept in the DSS detention facilities in Minna.
